Texture comes from details.
Design Director Carsten Jorgensen deconstructed this teapot into its components - pot body, handle, lid, and filter, revealing his design concept and perspective.
The Ideal Form of a Teapot | Humanity Prevails Over Mass Production
Designing the Bai Hao Teapot was one of Design Director Carsten Jorgensen's long-held desires. He envisioned this teapot to be produced in a glass factory he had visited years ago. Carsten knew that each part of this teapot, designed personally by him, would be meticulously handcrafted by skilled glassblowers in a favorable working environment. He deeply admired the craftsmanship and sensed that these teapots carried more than just aesthetic and functional value. They embodied the unique craftsmanship of the artisans, surpassing the mass-produced products in terms of their cultural value.
Hollow Pot Handle | The Power of Geometry | The Optimal Balance of Practicality and Aesthetics
Carsten Jorgensen aimed for the teapot handle to be securely fused to the oval pot body through two points, akin to the flawless position of geometric elements. This approach achieved the best balance between practicality and aesthetics, ensuring that pouring tea from any angle would be safe. After three months of continuous testing, the hollow glass tube handle proved to be mildly warm but not hot, thanks to its hollow design, which isolates the heat from the teapot.
Generous Filter | Ultra-fine Mesh | The Key to the Rich Flavor of Tea Infusion
The exquisitely crafted stainless steel filter is generously sized with an ultra-fine mesh, effectively filtering out tea particles while fully releasing the essence of the tea leaves. Don't forget, the key to a practical and convenient filter lies in considering both the size of the filter and the tea-to-water ratio. The Bai Hao Teapot in 0.6L and 1.2L sizes was specifically designed to follow this crucial aspect, allowing the tea leaves to fully expand and dissolve, resulting in exquisitely flavorful tea infusions. The backstage story of the filter... Its size needs to reach near the bottom of the pot, making it suitable for brewing small quantities as well.
Teapot Lid | Macro Aesthetics in Microcosm | Aesthetic, Functional, and Ecological Principles
Based on the principles of aesthetics, functionality, and ecology, Carsten Jorgensen chose porcelain as the material for the teapot lid. The teapot body is made of heat-resistant glass, the filter uses stainless steel, and the lid is made of porcelain - all materials that meet the three criteria. If this teapot is used with care, it can last a lifetime and become even more enduring with age. Moreover, Carsten believes that glass and porcelain are natural and sustainable materials. The lid is ingeniously designed with a soft silicone ring hidden inside, ensuring a secure fit with the filter for easy removal and placement, providing smooth operation, and preventing the lid from falling off when pouring tea.
