Customer Reviews
Born from the trial of fire, this teapot delivers pure beauty to true tea lovers. The Kyusu teapot carves out an essential space for tranquility between day and night, between this moment and the next.

The name "Kyusu" comes from the Japanese word "きゅうす," meaning teapot. While the vessel originated in China, it gained widespread popularity in 17th-century Edo-period Japan. The term evolved from the Chinese dialect word jishao(急燒), which historically referred to vessels used for boiling water, warming wine, brewing medicine, or steeping tea. Unlike standard teapots used in traditional ceremonies, a Kyusu is typically more compact, featuring a distinct side handle positioned at a 90-degree angle from the spout. This layout ensures a highly balanced, comfortable pour while heightening the ritual of tea preparation.

The Kyusu beautifully bridges the profound heritage of Chinese tea culture with the elegant refinement of Japanese craftsmanship. As tea traditions matured across generations in Japan, the Kyusu evolved into its contemporary form, becoming a beloved staple for daily brewing. Carrying centuries of tradition through the passage of time, it has established itself as an indispensable center-piece on the modern tea table, offering a pure and authentic brewing experience. At smith+hsu, we are honored to reintroduce this classic vessel into daily life, honoring the shared heritage and cultural dialogue between East Asian traditions.
