| Rooted in a deep passion for
Chinese and British tea culture and an even passion for
contemporary lifestyle I opened the first smith&hsu
teahouse in No.33, Zhong Xiao East Road in Taipei in May
2007. My long lasting dream of creating a contemporary
tea brand was to resemble the best tea of the harvest
from around the world with a sensible contemporary ambiance
ripped from any sense of nostalgic of the past. My dream
was named smith&hsu… a fusion of the typical English
name Smith and my even typical Taiwanese name Hsu… emphasizing
that smith&hsu is a compliment to eastern and western
tea culture offering a new conscious generation a new
sensibility.
With a sublime selection of a wide collection of teas
collected from the most famous tea plantations and tea
tasters around the world. We simply want to transform
old traditions into a contemporary way of making tea.
Indeed, our tea selection resembles the soul of smith&hsu…
somewhere in between the famous British eccentric tradition
and the innovative smith&hsu which is constantly
in search of the best teas and design of our time.
The new luxury tea culture demands innovative and contemporary
tea tools which can bring the richest taste out of our
premium, gourmet and rare estate teas. Careful selection
of materials suitable for our many teas is the subjects
of our tools and with more than 30 years of experience
with skilled craftsmen rooted in thousands of years
of Asian and western tradition smith&hsu T-tools
will become a must-have for the contemporary tea drinker.
…well and then my own enthusiasm for simplicity rooted
in 5,000 years of Asian tradition. Thus innovation and
timeless simplicity are the true values of smith&hsu.
….but smith&hsu has more than a mere passion for
tea and T-tools…. A world wide return to high quality
and natural essentials beyond fast food and supermarket
gadgets is not just a fashion trend but the awakening
of a new sensibility and concern for our globe and our
